Apt. Like they say ‘Winners write the history’. Maybe I should add ‘Winners write the history that is read’.
Would invasion qualify for immigration, and if it does then would ‘conquering a country’ type of immigration be the same as ‘ducking under fences’ kind, the latter to find work to send money home or settle behind to bring the family over?
The ‘conquerors’ might well wonder if America would be facing the kind of illegal immigration it now does, primarily from folks seeking a ‘better life’ and ‘living conditions’ if it was still Indian territory, and Columbus hadn’t scented a landing there.
But would immigration still be taking place if those who get across somehow found no work to do to earn the greenbacks they came over for in the first place? So, it is a strong possibility that they’re ‘needed’ over the fence?
“Needed? Well, since you’ve managed to ‘come over’ I might as well make use of you, else I would have done with what I had or could lay my hands on in terms of labour. But even if we use your services when you’re ‘available’ we still don’t want you here.”
The horns of a . . . . dilemma!
