The subsequent Matrix sequels, of course did not have the same impact as the original movie for obvious reasons but the magic lives on. I hope the Wachowski brothers are not lured by crass commercialization and they do not attempt to revive the Matrix. Back to Revolutions, the movie had a uniquely distinct line of separation on the philosophical and action sequences which made it slightly better than Reloaded wherein everything was a haggardly mess. Hell, for that matter Neo’s affinity for Trinity reached new levels when he referred to her as “Trin”. Now I am not sure if I really appreciated that bit of romanticism in middle of a mad scramble to save Zion.
The battle scene however was awesome, replete with loads of heart-stopping action. Infusion of Hindu philosophy, although clichéd concepts of karma were cited and a tiny ensemble of an Indian cast lent a desi touch to the series. I was surprised to hear one of my prayers from my Kendriya Vidyalaya days remixed with Trance in the Matrix and my ears loved it. Keep your ears tuned for the background score during Smith and Neo battle.

One of the impressive sequences was Niobe’s outrunning the sentinels that somehow tried to prove that women are better drivers than men. Maybe it is true but sadly I haven’t met many yet and for heaven’s sake don’t extend this statement beyond permissible limits. I will be willing to change my views if I see one. Also never let size determine your fighting prowess. Just as a hand-held rocket launcher can bring a Black Hawk down in Somalia, so can couple of ladies do the same for the bulky digging machines. The Commander is perceived to be a spoilsport for his astute far-reaching vision and for not rejoicing in short-lived joy. But that is the cost of being a leader. Love is an oft-abused term, even in sci-fi movies. Note the Agent Smith’s frustration and the “French guy’s” chilling acceptance of the power of love. The natural beauty of this world can always draw a sigh of surprise and joy even when you are on a world-altering mission. To round it off and trying hard not to provide the spoilers, here are few of the memorable lines of the Revolutions:
- Everything that has a beginning has an end.
- You didn’t believe in the One? I still don’t but I believe in him
- It is not impossible, it is inevitable.
- If we have to give our lives, let’s give them hell before we do.
- I would have done anything for our love six hours ago. What has changed in last six hours? Nothing.
- Machines don’t care if I am 18 or 16. They’ll kill me the same.
