I entered a spick and span
Now, I am not going to review the movie, especially after the previous post! I request you guys to read what a friend of mine thinks. He is an aspiring film maker and hopes to make a living out of it! I thought he was kidding himself, but, he seems to be serious!
Here are a few of my thoughts… call it my first impression of the film which has 16 women and a Shah Rukh Khan.
Normally, an SRK movie leaves you exhausted after you leave the movie hall because he over acts, over acts and does it all over again with amazing consistency. The very fit 41 year old bearded superstar disappoints on this occasion. He actually does a good job in restraining himself playing the character, Kabir Khan, an ostracized hockey player (He put himself before the team thing…) from the Indian Hockey team who takes to coaching the Indian Women’s National team to salvage his pride!
The movie might remind a few of you about Denzel Washington’s ‘Remember the Titans’. But, this one doesn’t have any fiery speeches from the coach in the locker room. Neither do the training sessions (the making of the team) seem grueling enough that you start sweating in your seats. But, it is a treat to watch 19 girls chase a hockey ball; if you know what I mean. Watch out for the babe from Chandigarh. She’s a personal favourite and there’s another cocky 4-footer who will leave you in splits!
Chuck De… is a story of team spirit, morale, woman power blah, blah…Hockey was the only novelty in the film as there have been more than a dozen movies made on cricket over the past century! It could well have been another sport and it wouldn’t have mattered.
Although it is not a novel effort, it is tightly edited and every scene adds something new to the story. Thankfully, the film was not embellished by the song and dance sequence which an SRK starrer normally is saturated with!
All in all I was entertained by more than a good effort by Shimit Amin, the director, unlike what Kartick thinks. I left the theater smiling with a light heart. Then it got a bit heavy as I saw the floor strewn with pop corns, plastic and some paper plates carelessly left by our very educated junta which prides on driving a four wheeler to spend gloriously at a multiplex where a sandwich will cost me a fortune! But, the bin was as hopeful as before, ‘The floor is on diet, please feed me!” ‘Damn’, I thought, ‘May be, some day we’ll grow up!’
Go, enjoy the film if you haven’t already!

Dear Abhishek,
Thank you for exhibiting a link to my thoughts. While we have disagreed vehemently on most aspects of the film, your write up was an interesting read (as it usually is).
Also, I wanted to know where you found 3 extra women in the film you saw - “But, it is a treat to watch 19 girls chase a hockey ball; if you know what I mean.”. I only saw 16…
