Re: Forward for Cash or Luck

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email alerts. Thanks for visiting!

The one thing that gets my goat now is the necessity to forward any kind of junk. Friends that haven’t bothered to keep in touch keep forwarding huge emails, complete with PowerPoint presentations on how rosy life is and pictures of cute kitten and puppies. Not only are such emails annoying but they come bundled with a list of emails that would shame any spammer.

To be a part of that ludicrous bunch in an otherwise neglected address book is insult enough. The chain letters that come with their own blackmail message are the pits. Psyching me out with a life-threatening disease or loss of a loved one has now stopped scaring me and similarly promises me a love-filled life or a cash bounty if I forward their piece of junk now fails to allure me.

I remember being exposed to the first-ever chain letters many years back. Internet was an unknown word then and I received an inland letter from a cousin who had droned on for four pages – front and back - about the letter being an inter-continental chain letter, linking people all over the world in unity and joy. I still remember painstakingly writing ten letters by hand on similar inland letters, conveying the same message and even posting a greeting card to the topmost person in the list. After all that effort, my cousin has the cheek to admonish me for sending the letter to another cousin she had already mailed. I was made aware of breaking the chain and being an impediment to world peace.

Now when I know more, I will instantly direct such kind of gibberish, virtual or real to the trash can. The worst thing you can do to me online is send me one of those cheesy email forwards that pray for me or promise me loads of money. I am glad I was out of India by the time the SMS generation took control.

Fwd: Fwd: good friends never dump sweet messages from long lost acquaintances into the trash. They read them and forward them on to other long lost acquaintances for if they didn’t, the email service providers would have nothing better to do, seeing that most emails you get these days are either junk or forwards anyway.

Message body: I have been dumping them in the trash for years now. :-))

I have always made a point to show these chain letters their proper place: trash can.

W-bug - emotional blackmail does fool some people still but not me..at least not anymore.
Parag - Even my trash is sighing under the burden now.

Totally agree man! I used to send the “threatning” forwards back to the sender with my own “threats”…but i’ve stopped doing that too. its the same for me now…straight to the can!

  5. Queer Says:

Me too has done that inland letter thing:D

  6. Patrix Says:

Yogustus - Better yet ask if the sender has done the same thing..reverse blackmail. But the can is the gentleman’s way out, I guess.
Queer - LOL! et tu. so I wasn’t the only sucker.
