Sanjaya and Shyamali in Mumbai

It is Malakar time again. This blog has been an avid proponent of the Malakrazy phenomenon that swept the United States a year ago. Thanks to the original Malakar fan, I was informed that Sanjaya Malakar and his sister Shyamali were in Mumbai, returning to India after nearly a decade or as Sanjaya puts its, “for the first time since the fifth standard”. Hmmm…I would have assumed he say grade instead of standard. But perhaps that was Rediff taking creative license but then we did have the quotes. Anyway, the Rediff article is as usual no great shakes and peppered with fanboy adjectives like, Sanjaya’s ‘brilliant smile’ and his ‘gorgeous’ sister Shyamali.

Malakars in MumbaiBut apart from the insipid article that hardly gives any updates on the Malakar’s India trip, I immediately scrolled down to the comments section. The pride of the India, Rediff commenters did not fail to deliver. The hottest discussion threads involved bashing Sanjaya for coming to India with a ‘begging bowl’ (?), commenting on his supposedly gay demeanor (homophobia is a national pastime that all sections of an otherwise argumentative Indian society can freely indulge in), and of course, the hotness of his sister, Shyamali. This blog and its (male) readers have had an unanimous opinion on Ms.Malakar so it was surprising to see some disagreement in the Rediff comments; not surprising given her dusky looks. But couple of precious insights rejected the null. For example, “She IS good looking and also an ex-employee of HOOTERS a fast food chain that hires only GORGEOUS looking girls as waitresses” (sic). He is right, you cannot argue with that kind of transitive logic. And to someone’s argument that beauty doesn’t alone lie in looks, another chimed in, “beauty lies in the eyes of the BEERHOLDER” Wow! Now, I’m sure ToI would be interested in hiring him as a pun-writer. If that wasn’t enough then there is a side-rant on “Bengalis winning all music competitions, be it India or the West” Now that’s a conspiracy theory we can believe in. On a sidenote, something tells me that it has been a while since Shyamali has worn a saree.

I noticed the comments too. Can always count on Rediff commenters (sic?) to provide a few laughs. There was also a “Lata Mangeshkar is Maratha pride” comment. Not arguing she isn’t, I was just not sure how it related to the topic.

Santosh, you are asking for related comments? Now I’m sure you have around longer to know better than that :)

I find little difference between spam and rediff commentators. I wonder where they get them from LOL!! As far as Malakar goes, oh, he is still around. I thought he had gone back to hibernation after his idol trip. He’s coming out with an album too it seems - too late to cash on his popularity imo.

Poor kid - he really does need a haircut though - he’s very quickly turning into his sister.

You’re telling me you haven’t seen this line on those Tantra t-shirts?

    Old hat, mate.

    You mean, the original FanJaya!

  6. Lekhni Says:

You guys actually have time to read the comments in Rediff? All 561 of them? I’d like to apply for a job in your company, please ;)

  7. Patrix Says:

Supremus, come on, spam doesn’t make you laugh or entertain you :) But I agree, Rediff can remove the comments and it will actually make their site better.

Aditya, ah! Tantra shirts…I remember them but sorry, I’m an adult now :)

    Anantha
    , yeah…Fanjaya. How could I’ve forgotten that.

Lekhni, there were 561 comments?? And feel free to apply for a job in my company, it is called grad school. And as other guys will tell you, there is always time for Shyamali Malakar :)

  8. Rohit Says:

    Dude,

You suck. Malakar is wearing too many clothes! Find a better picture please. :)

  9. Patrix Says:

Rohit, I hope you mean Shyamali. If you want Sanjaya in less clothes then there are other blogs that might help :)

  10. Rohit Says:

Sigh. I thought you the Malakar expert!

And yeah, Shyamali… but you are right… she doesn’t seem to have even wore a sari before.
