No surprise that search volume for pron has steadily increased in India but why does Meghalaya lead the pack [via]. I didn’t even know they had reliable net access.

That’s a rather specific term, and requires more than a passing knowledge of English. You would get more representative results if you looked for the generic “sex”. Orissa tops the list for that one!!

Vivek, true but then still why Meghalaya? And why does Orissa top the list for ’sex’ and not other states like MH, TN, or KA which have higher Internet penetration, no pun intended :)

The reason states like Orissa and Meghalaya feature in the list is perhaps because Indian cities have all got decent internet penetration. So, while Orissa may not have great internet density, Bhubaneshwar does.
Then, they feature near the top because people in say, MH/TN/KA, have seen enough of the internet to know that Google searches for such keywords are essentially meaningless because you can’t find anything “useful”. Those people are probably already using other websites for such purposes.
A slightly “advanced” term like “torrent client” puts almost all states at zero, except DL, KA, GJ, TN, MP, MH and AP. Strangely enough, “torrent download” puts Orissa back on top. But Mehgalaya is clearly out. Clearly, Orissa is going places :)

Vivek, hmmm…that makes sense. I guess people in higher Internet penetration states have already googled porn and sex and moved on to specific keywords. Must test all known porn lingo for trends :) For now, it does seem Orissa is going places. Must let my in-laws know that factoid.
