The Urban Political Economy class has kicked into high gear over the past couple of few weeks, courtesy a loud mouth that seems to have an opinion on almost all policy issues and mysteriously seems to consider all authorship of the science and technology issues to be complete jack asses. But today was something special as he launched into a rant on how stupid a particular author is coz she chose to elaborate some obscure theory that bounced clear off his head. Strangely he linked his argument on the BPO arguments and meanderingly linked it to the depleting white race. I couldn’t believe my ears that this guy sitting is a multicultural class comprising of Indians, Koreans, and African-Americans could even muster up courage for such utterances. Although he tried to temper it down by exhorting that this wasn’t meant to reflect his personal bigoted or racial aspect of personality, it exactly did that. And he was adequately rebuked by the supervising professor, although in a mocking tone. Thankfully, he seemed to understand the gravity of his utterances and a little bit of humor from the rest of the class did diffuse the tension. Yup, no matter how educated people might seem, some things never change. I will give him the benefit of doubt this time round.
Thankfully, the day ended on a better note when I drove home ( a rare day when I choose to drive to school) with MV. We had lotsa stuff to catch up on, since we had hardly had a heart-to-heart talk in a long time. Samantha at the local Starbucks had to politely cut our evening short at their closing hours.
