SPK Beauties

I was doing an
ego search on Wikipedia (of course, came up with nothing). But I found something interesting in relation with my last name. It turns out that the
Miss India runner-up in 1982 was Uttara Mhatre. I googled her just to confirm and to look for a picture. It turns out that she indeed was the runner-up to none other than Pamela Singh (later Bordes) who of course went on to
scale ‘greater’ heights. I didn’t get a picture of Uttara though (let me know if you do). Although my last name has crossover links in other communities too (some that my parents rather not relate to favorably…long story), I never had imagined someone from
our community would be involved in beauty contests (hey, that’s no judgment on the girls from the community though; many have potential but simply will not take that extra step). Until of course, I remembered that
Ujjwala Raut had repeated the achievement in recent times to remarkable effect.

let’s see what this does for the ego - the place I used to work, IMRB is located in a building in dadar called Mhatre Pen Building - fondly known to cabbies and shopkeepers in the area as mhatre-pane :)

Charu - LOL! as long as it isn’t Mhatre-pain, I am satisfied. BTW G.B.Mhatre was a renowned architect who designed many art deco buildings in Bombay (take a look at the buildings on the other side of Oval Maidan.

ok.. u know what first comes to mind when you say Mhatre? Chicken. are you related to the poultry Empire?

Sqrl - Whew! I almost thought you called me chicken. Nope, the only poultry empire I am connected to is cooking and eating chicken. Now, where did you make the chicken and Mhatre connection would be an interesting story.

Patrix,
I read your blog fairly regularly, although I’ve rarely commented before.
As far as I know Uttara Mhatre belongs to the family that has the poultry business; not very sure about that.
But I do know that she’s married to actress Usha Kiran’s son and they own a restaurant in Nasik.

i do know Uttara Mhatre - she stays in Nasik and has a restaurant there. She has nothing to do with Prabhat Poultry as far as i Know, and her father was a prominent architect. By the way, I did read her comments about her husband and kids calling her MOTHER INDIA now, and I do not think they are tooo far off the mark
