First it was the ‘thirsty’ Ganpati who drank milk. Now, it is insanely stupid people who are guzzling down sea water because it has ‘mysteriously’ turned sweet [via].
Heck, why stop them? This might be the cheapest corrective measures of pollution we might have. Let them drink all they want and scientists can later analyze the water to point out the filth that is making it sweet. Then, we can again reassemble for a mass throwing up session as well.
Update: When I mentioned the Ganpati milk-drinking ridiculousness as a precedent for such mass stupidity, I didn’t expect an encore.
“A cup of milk was offered to Durga Ji in Rama Nand Ashram Goverdhan on Sunday evening and she was not only pleased but has drank all. It is a good omen and the future of the country is bright”, noted saint Mahamandaleshwar Krishna Das Kanchan Maharaj said in Mathura [source].
Ok! We officially have no hope.

I just saw it on the news! “Mass hysteria in Mahin” …shrieks the headlines…and OMG there were kids of all ages drinking the water like it’s coke or pepsi. (can’t decide which is worse..pepsi or this contaminated sweet water). To top it all they interviewed a mother who had brought her baby all the way to mahin to drink the water and get immunized against diseases. someone please tell her about vaccinations…hahaha!

Aqua: actually if the child drinks the polluted stuff and survives - it will be immunized pretty well ;-)
This could be the first case of a mass ‘Darwin Awards‘ event ever ;-)

[...] Seems like there isn’t much happening around the world worth getting excited enough to blog about. Well, not absolutely true - there is this story about crazies in Mumbai getting excited about drinking ‘sweet sea-water‘ ! As I mentioned in a comment on Patrix’s blog, this event may actually qualify as the first ever presentation of Darwin Awards to a whole mass of people! [...]

I declare it as a MIRACLE from GOD…
A miracle that has
1. made the government accept that the water around Mumbai of being toxic
2. made it accept of spilling of untreated industrial sewage into the sea,
3. made it show that it cannot control even a patch of sea-face, forget controlling law & order of the state
4. made the TV channels go around creating more national drama than a localised phenomena of beliefs

I think this is great! If all these stupid people die, the average IQ of the population will go up. Let nature take care of things. ;)
