If Al Gore credits himself on being the father of the Internet, Howard Dean certainly has been the man who put blogs on the front page. His online network primarily through his blog generated $41 million last year, a record for a Democratic candidate. But like all good things, this dream run too has come to an end. Dean finally called it quits and ended one of the most enigmatic presidential campaigns in recent times. His grassroots organization, although has still been sustained but I am not sure how long will it stand the test of time without a clear objective in sight.
This Dean campaign certainly infused life into the mundane Democratic Party and gave a ray of hope to the Bush bashers. But somewhere down the lane, voters played it safe and went with a regular candidate. Some may blame his flaming temper and penchant for shooting from the hip. But all said and done, I am truly sad that the Dean-mania couldn’t last till the convention. It would have made great entertainment to hear his acceptance speech…something to match the Super Bowl halftime show.
