The fastest growing sport in America? You might be surprised to know that it is…cricket, says the Beeb. We Indians like to think that baseball is a bastardized version of cricket, but Atlanta (my former place of residence) is turning the tide in favor of the original bat-n-ball game. There are as many as “23 teams with 600 players” in the domestic league.
I personally knew couple of serious cricketers from the Indian community who also told me that the West Indian diaspora had many players in the region as well. Presence of Pakistanis and Bangladeshi expats meant that they could have a ‘four-nation tournament’ on a regular basis. Of course, most of them are Americans assuming the national identities of their country of origin for a little while.

I’m sure cricket was the fastest growing sport in the US last year
It doesn’t take much to go from 0 to 10%…
Having played in a few cricket leagues here in Umrica, I can confidently state that there will be little if any growth within a couple of years, because the only people who will play the game are first gen immigrants from the caribbean and the sub-continent.

I’m not surprised. My high school in NJ has its own cricket team.
