I almost thought they were talking about Milkha Singh until I realized that it was a Anthony Hopkins movie. IMDB has a pithy summary:
"In `60s New Zealand, at the bottom of the world, Burt Munro takes a 1920 Indian motorcycle and, delightfully without resources other than his own obsession and a Kiwi #8 wire mentality, spends his retirement rebuilding the bike and following his dream to go to Speed Week at Salt Lake in Utah. Under funded, without the support of a team and against all the odds he not only makes it to Bonneville, he sets a world land spend record, not once, but again and again."
I am not a motorcylce fan at all so I am not even sure if the Indian motorcycle they are talking about is really Indian. If you are one of those "biker dudes" and know more, please let me know. Further, the movie is described as a chick flick for guys. You wouldn’t expect that kind of a tagline for a movie about a bike, would you?
Update: Thanks to Michael, doubts clarified. The bike in question has nothing to do with India and is simply an old brand. Look below for a picture:

Hi Patrix
No, the Indian motorcycle has nothing to do with India. It was manufactured in the US and of course the “Indians” referred to are not from India.
Here is a link to Indian Motorcycles

Michael, thanks for that link. I had my doubts but the movie reviews didn’t tell much.

The Indian motorcycles were the first American motorcycles. They are named so after the “red Indians” or “native indians”
The models were thus named Chief Indian, Indian Scout and so on.
If you lived in the 20’s 30’s and 40’s these were the motorcycles to have. They kicked harley’s ass in those days. Sadly they went bankrupt. After nearly four decades, the brand was revived and you now see a few on the roads here.
Indians were very famous as old motorcycles in India too. I have a friend who owns a 1952 Chief Indian.
If you remember the movie HERO with Jackie Shroff….there is a motorbike scene….and the white motorbike that Jackie rides is a white Chief Indian.

Thanks, Arzan, for that info. I never knew about these motorcyles. I actually remember the Jackie movie, Hero and the song you are talking about…one of the first Bollywood songs I hummed :)
