I’m aware that China claims Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of its territory as part of Ngari, Shannan and Nyingchi Prefectures. But however ridiculous that claim might be, I’m sure India hasn’t given up its territory yet. I see no reason why China would route its torch relay through this allegedly disputed territory other than trying to legitimize its claim. The fact that they are carrying the torch through Lhasa is insult enough to Tibetans. My knowledge of the region’s background is a bit fuzzy but I’m sure China stands on thin ice regards this claim and digs it up often during unrelated negotiations. Unfortunately, our wussy government hasn’t managed to rubbish this claim into obsolescence yet.
Also, I’m not sure if this is in fact an error on part of Google and if the torch relay doesn’t really pass through Arunachal Pradesh and just shows up so due to mapping error. But what’s with the dotted line a la Kashmir on the Arunachal border? And if it does pass through Arunachal Pradesh, why isn’t India protesting this unless they have already given up. I hope the media doesn’t let this slip by. Let me know if you have better information on this matter.

Regarding the “vote” is there another “(meta)vote widget” that lets me vote “thumbs down (or up)” on the first “vote” option? ;) :D

Prashanth, I’ve informed the folks higher up regarding your observations :) Will let you know when I hear back.
Amit, unfortunately my blog is not Digg for meta-voting but that doesn’t keep the weirdos like commenters on Digg or Rediff away :)
