United States sets date on Iraqi withdrawal

“U.S. and Iraqi negotiators have agreed to the withdrawal of all U.S. combat forces from the country by the end of 2011, and Iraqi officials said they are “very close” to resolving the remaining issues blocking a final accord that governs the future American military presence here” [source].

This is big news and a major policy shift for the Bush administration who has always disavowed any timetables or talk of withdrawal. This is good news for the Obama campaign as the withdrawal deadline is aligned closely with Obama’s withdrawal proposal at the rate of two battalions a month. I wonder if McCain will now accuse Bush of cutting and running or surrendering to the enemy. Considering this drastic turnaround, why isn’t this big news?
