Trip to Corpus Christi

Last weekend Ash and I went to Corpus Christi with couple of our friends. The last few weeks have been quite hectic for both of us and since things seem to be headed in the right direction, the trip was a welcome break. Corpus Christi is primarily an industrial town on the southern Texas coastline. But a drive along Ocean Drive will dispel any notions of being a grim greasy city. Seafood, as with any coastal town trip we take, was the prime attraction however other sights like the USS Lexington Museum, the Texas State Aquarium, and the Padre Island National Seashore surprisingly exceeded expectations. For a change, I’ll let my pictures do the talking:

Underwater Dolphins

Dolphin Show 3

Dolphins at the Texas State Aquarium. They perform a series of acts in a finely conducted show.

Silhouette

Although the billboard and lamp post mar the silhouette, the palm trees more than make up for it, thanks to the brilliant evening light.

USS Lexington

USS Lexington Mast

Flight Deck on USS Lexington

Don’t miss the USS Lexington Museum tour if you are ever down there.

Padre Island Beach Dunes

Padre Island Beach Flag

Padre Island Beach flowers 1

All beaches should be this well protected and conserved. The Padre Island National Seashore is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service and covers a stretch of 60 miles of pristine unspoiled beachfront with nothing but sand, seaweed, and dune grass.

WaterStreet Seafood Co 3

Review at Pier 99

And of course, indulge in some excellent seafood. And it seems that we weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the trip. But stay away from the sharks.

M, thanks. You can never tire of seeing dolphins swim. We too went out on a cruise to see dolphins in the wild but they can be quite elusive.

Padre Island is the spring break hot-spot if I’m not mistaken? :-)

  5. Patrix Says:

Supremus, unfortunately the closest places are the ones you never go to. I lived in Atlanta for 5 years and never went to Smoky Mountains. I’m trying to correct that now.

Santosh, South Padre Island is the spring break hot spot whereas North Padre Island is a protected sanctuary.

    Patrix,
    Thanks for the clarification.

Fantastic photos. I hope the “seafood” did not include the sharks.

Santosh, too late for a spring break trip now :)

Ashutosh, thanks! And nope, it didn’t…not yet that adventurous although one of our friends mentioned it is quite tasty.
